What the hell do you know about education, Savage Bob?
Number One
--
At the end of a tiny deserted bar sits Indian Bob. Bob's having a few "Fire
Waters" when a well dressed, and obviously Gay man named Art Deco walks in
and sits down beside him.
After three or four "Fire Waters" Art finally plucks up the courage to say
something to Indian Bob. Leaning over towards him, he whispers, "Do you want
a blow job?"
At this, Indian Bob leaps up with fire in his eyes and smacks Art in the
face knocking him swiftly off his stool. He proceeds to beat Art all the way
out of the bar before leaving the Faggot bruised and battered in the parking
lot, then returns to his seat.
Amazed, the bartender quickly brings over another "Fire Water" to Indian
Bob. "I've never seen you react like that," he says. "Just what did Art say
to you?"
" I don't know," Indian Bob replied. "Something about a job".

I guess the point I was trying to make is at a parent
has to be committed to their child's education to
homeschool, and I certainly never encouraged anyone
else to do it. Lots of encouragement for those who were
homeschooling, but I never suggested anyone do it.
I am wholly agreed. I wouldn't want to *persuade* even one
parent to switch to homeschooling when he has not already
chosen to do so himself. Lots of encouragement for those who
have chosen, yes, but not one word to try to recruit anyone.

On the other hand, I'd be in favor of coercing parents into taking an
interest in their children's development by eliminating the education
welfare institution and make then pick a private school to send their
kids to if they are too worried about doing it themselves. Vouchers
would be fine for me. Something analogous to the food stamp system --
we let people use food stamps but don't send them to government
grocery stores with them.
Just an idea.

I'll appoint a "Blue-Ribbon" committee to investigate that very subject,

Is it that time of year again Mark?
Go ahead, why don't you explain it to us.
Or, are you going to (like last time) spend your time DEMANDING that the
newsgroup give you a definition that meet your satisfaction? |

Hey Pandora, can you define "suffer". If you mean academically, do you have
any statistics to back your statement?

I know more than one!
I guess the point I was trying to make is at a parent has to be committed to
their child's education to homeschool, and I certainly never encouraged
anyone else to do it. Lots of encouragement for those who were
homeschooling, but I never suggested anyone do it.
OTOH, people would say weird things like "Oh, you homeschool, I could never
to that" ...... all I'd done was answer their question about where the kids
"go to school"!!!!
I'd never tried to justify my decision nor to "convert" them to
homeschooling, but for some reason they seemed to feel that since I was
doing it they should but couldn't.

Yes, BO, a true point doesn't support an unrelated
true assertion. However, your observation likewise
doesn't affect the veracity of either other assertion.
They both remain true.
However, you're wrong and patently so when your point
is taken in broad context: The vast majority of parents
*are* competent and are trusted as being competent by
society and government, to teach quite a lot to their
children.

Well actually, BD, I certainly *do* try to get quite
a few people to hs. Not everyone, obviously, but
I'm firmly convinced that the people I "target" with
my goodwill are both competent to hs and are in
possession of enough wisdom to decide, and take
responsibility for themselves, given any information
and encouragement I can provide. The former (those
who are competent to hs) includes almost everyone I
know or come across. The latter is a smaller group.

Well, I think that pretty much *all* families of tiny
people do what would be recognized as hsing later on when
the material is more advanced. And I think that that's
good. BD, can that qualify as thinking that all people
should hs? :- ) (Ok, it's a stretch). ________Marty
