# The Creationists never give up, do they? All traditional religions are
pre-scientific, and all have some creation theory in their sacred books; the
best guess at the time.
Modern Science is empirical, it collects facts, then tries to find the
best theory which fits those facts.
Evolution of Biological Species is the minimalist best fit, and has a
multitude of facts to support it. It is the basis of taxonomy
(classification of species) and has never been disproven, even if modified
from time to time - eg. the recent contention that birds are descended from
dinosaurs and not from reptiles in general. Even hoaxes, such as the
Piltdown Skull can be exposed.
Creationists seem to wonder how anything as complex as a human being could
originate from single-celled protozoa, forgetting that evolution occurred
over millions of years; a slow, accumulative, random, but causal process.
Also, the human body has some 70 vestigial parts, and is full of defects.
We are not atop some evolutionary "tree", but are more likely an aberrant
off-shoot, a temporary phenomenon, already heading for extinction, having
only existed as Homo Sapiens (sic) for about one million years - a tiny
flicker of the cosmic clock.
What was any "God" doing before he/she/it created the universe for our
sole Salvation - sitting around feeling bored?
No, we created gods, goddesses, demons, goblins, heaven and hell, in our
own image, and for our own ego-centric purposes. God was the Old Man of the
Tribe, who helped his own tribe in battle as Lord of Hosts (of the
Israelites), against rival deities and tribes (Baal, etc).
If Creationists want to continue to teach their beliefs, let them do so in
Religious Instruction classes, not by intruding into Science classes - There
you are: a free and equal competition between ideas! And see who wins.
But that is not what they want - they want to ban the one, and give the
other open go. Facts? Who cares about them? |

Well said Don, I couldn't agree more.
