Hi All,

For various reasons I am considering a career change and am looking
seriously at teaching. I have a degree in electronics engineering
(honours etc) which contains a large maths content. Would this
combined with the relevent post-grad diplomas enable me to teach maths
in high schools and to what level? Any comments?

Many thanks for any help.

From what i've seen you need to have "sub-majored" in maths if you are
tacking a dip. ed. onto a normal degree. I just can't work out if i've
got what it takes. (academically speaking Smile

Cheers

Hi
afaik in all states you may teach if you simply get a DipEd (diploma of
education).
with your maths bkgnd you could teach up to yr12 with no prob's.

All you need is a DipEd, and you can ask to focus on mathematical
teaching. But you don't need all that much maths. In practise, a huge
number of maths teachers don't have it. Try different DipEd programmes
- they have differing ideas about what counts as adequate background.
