For $20 a month, you can employ a telephone service to check on
grandparents or elderly relatives who are living alone and
make them laugh.

This service is now available Australia wide. Auto TeleCare
started offering daily phone support to assist the growing
trend of people living alone, and is the first and only business
in Australia to offer this automatic telephone service.

David McMahon has 14 years computer & telecommunications experience
and started Auto TeleCare in December 2003 to develop an effective
and affordable "safety net" to ensure that a person living alone is
not missed or forgotten. David McMahon said, "Research shows
that having a laugh can keep you healthy and help you with the
pressures in your life. I designed this service to provide people
with reassurance and to help them laugh each day. It is amazing how
much a laugh can help".

Each day Auto TeleCare will phone the person living alone and
they can listen to "Make me laugh", "Inspirational thoughts" or
"Have your say". The person pushes a number on their phone
to listen to the different options. Pushing the button on the
phone lets Auto TeleCare know they are OK. If they are unable
to answer the phone Auto TeleCare's staff will attempt to call
them and if necessary will call their family to tell them there
is a problem - 7 days a week.

The Australian Bureau of Statistics has forecast that 1 in 7 will
live alone by the year 2021. Currently there are 678,000 people
aged 65 and over who live alone, that accounts for 28 percent of
people in that age group.
