I googled for "how dilapatories work" and found nothing so I ask you
experts.
How do hair-removal creams (such as Nair) actually work?
Do they dissolve the keratin in the hair?
Do they kill the roots?
How do they actually work?
Anyone know?

Try looking for "how do *depilatories* work." Google gives a lot of hits that
the summaries indicate contain what you want to know. |

They break the sulfur crosslinks that hold keratin together, so that
it softens and falls apart. 'Permanent' hair-setting treatments do the
same thing, but under more controlled conditions.
Your skin is protected by oils and many layers of dead cells that
break down more slowly and protect the live skin underneath.

Wow. That's sort of like dissolving the mortar between stacked bricks.
As for the skin, apparently has a tarp over the flat tiled bricks.
At least that's how I envision what you've described for how depilatories
work.
