I have recently been contemplating a change of career. I have spent most of
my working life in the RAF, and have completed a couple of courses with the
Open University, with a view to gaining a BSc. (Science based subjects).

I've always been interesed in physics and was wondering what career
prospects there are for a 41 year old who has suddenly developed the urge to
become a physics teacher?
Can someone point me in the right direction?

TIA

I am currently doing a PGDE(S) in Physics. One of the people I am
training with is about your age. One of the people I met on the first
day is in almost your position (age and background) except doing maths.

I would say it's worth pursuing if it's what you want to do. To give you
an idea of the shortage of physics teachers:
Out of 30 spaces on the course this year, there are 8 people
Our subject tutor who was on loan from a local independent school is
getting called back because they are short staffed
All the physics teachers who put the city council as their first choice
for the induction year got it - last year

My own background is I've just finished a BscEng (general).
