What scum burns down a school?
The Malvern Valley Primary School (Vic) was incinerated, and arson is
suspected. I have my own theory as to who is likely to do this -religious
fanatics, thinking they are doing God a favour by eliminating a godless
establishment. However, I could be completely wrong, but it's hardly likely
to be a disgruntled student - not at a primary school. Secondary school,
maybe.
Whatever. The main thing is to prevent recurrence, and installing both
sprinkler system and video surveillance at all schools, though costly, might
prove to be cheap at twice the price.

There have now been five schools subjected to arson attack recently in
Victoria, three over this weekend. What may be significant is not which ones
were attacked (all govt), but which were not - Catholic and other
"independent" schools. Why?

Maybe so; but both you and I may be "jumping to a conclusion".
When, and if, culprits are caught, then an investigation into their
background might prove enlightening. Also, they shouldn't be let off with
only a reprimand; their parents could well be forced to contribute to cost
of rebuilding. Is corporal punishment banned from schools nowadays (because
we can't "assault" the little darlings?) - though I remember I'd sooner get
"the cuts" than do a detention.
